Mucca Pazza

About the album: Recorded all over Chicago, from the streets to the alleys, to the studio, Plays Well Together truly captures the excitement of a Mucca Pazza show. The album skips from genre to unnamable genre, never settling in one place for long, but it's all held together by the band's unmistakable sound and irresistible energy. From a song by famed Egyptian composer Kemal El Tawil to a demented circus waltz, from a traditional cocek with fuzzed-out melodica to a sci-fi mambo from another planet, this band plays whatever it wants. Even the classical repertoire isn't safe. They do an arrangement of a piano trio movement by Shostakovich that would make Dmitri squirm, and fit some oddly shaped marching boots onto one of Bela Bartok's Rumanian Dances.

Between songs the cheerleaders skip into the studio with their megaphone and pom-poms and show why they were too weird for the high school squad, then the percussion section cadences get the band geeks moving, grooving, dancing, and marching in place.

This record is a whole lot of fun to listen to, and the beautiful thing is that you can tell it was just as much fun to make.
